Artist Statement

MADXZYDE is a Tempe, Arizona-based artist collaboration between Maura Dixon (MAD) and Hyde Groat (ZYDE) who work together to develop illustrations utilizing traditional and digital media. The artists met while completing BFAs at Arizona State University and have been creating works together professionally since 2021.

Their process begins with a conceptualization stage in which they create sketches of artwork usually relating to a prompt or theme. After the inital sketching phase, Dixon takes the lead on line work while Groat incorporates color and value.

MADXZYDE: Halloween Art Show is a collection of portraits featuring original characters. These paintings draw inspiration from classic horror movies and Halloween icons.
